“Insuring” a Future Career

Strategic Community Partnership Offers Unique Experience for Young Students True to its mission of developing the world’s future leaders by matching hard working students with career development opportunities, this fall Northwood enters into a new strategic community partnership in mid-Michigan. Working with Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance and two mid-Michigan school districts, Northwood has become part of a statewide effort to address a critical need for future talent in Michigan’s growing insurance industry.

According to Bryan Gilleland, executive and senior vice president of Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance Company, the effort, coordinated by Insuring MI Future, allows high school students in Tuscola and Saginaw counties to earn credits from their high school and from Northwood University simultaneously for a head start on a career in insurance.

“Many high school students are simply not familiar with the variety of career opportunities in the insurance field,” said Gilleland. “This innovative program offers young students a first-hand look at a career in insurance,” said Gilleland. “It also funnels career professionals into an industry facing a severe talent shortage.”
