Northwood Style Show 2016


A Night of Broadway "All that Jazz," "The Circle of Life," "Music of the Night," and many more other well-known and loved Broadway tunes were some of the songs that accompanied models down the runway at Northwood's 2016 Style Show in April. "Play with Style," the show's theme, used student designs, dynamic clothing, and statement pieces to bring to life some of Broadway's favorite musicals as envisioned in the creative, visual art of fashion.

The Style Show was planned and managed completely by students – from the first creative meeting at the start of the school year to the last pair of shoes to hit the runway. Eighty students, including 20 executive board members, designers, models, and volunteers, worked hard to entertain the 800-person audience. The clothing ensembles shown became wearable inspiration based on Broadway’s “Chicago,” “Hairspray,” “Lion King,” “Phantom of the Opera,” and “Rock of Ages.” Reflecting Northwood’s unique educational value proposition, the show provided exceptional leadership opportunities and experiential learning.

A new addition at this year’s Style Show was the Style Show Shop. Area retailers showcased their merchandise at booths, providing real world, business-focused examples of the fashion industry’s influence on local commerce and in our lives.


“I think everyone involved was excited to use their creativity, talents, organizational strengths, and interpersonal skills on a real project. And it was so rewarding to see it all come together for an amazing night,” said Leann Colella, Northwood junior and vice chair of Style. “All of Northwood takes a lot of pride in the success of the Style Show. I’m honored that I could help highlight the talent and strength of NU’s Fashion Marketing and Management program and continue a 15-year tradition of achievement.”

Fashion Marketing and Management at Northwood University

Northwood’s Fashion Marketing and Management program focuses on the highly complex and ever-changing international world of fashion marketing. With classes that include textiles, fashion promotions, theory and practice, buying, and apparel analysis, students receive an education that encourages their entrepreneurial interest, passion for fashion, and flair for business.
