Rachel Burton (Class of 2011)

“I have been involved in the sports industry since before I can remember. I was just eight years old when my mom started as a seasonal employee for a local minor league baseball team called the “Michigan Battle Cats”, in Battle Creek, Mich.

As a young child growing up in the ballpark, I wanted to do anything possible to help my mom. And as I got older, I started helping her with concessions management. I know growing up in a sports environment is what shaped me to feel comfortable to pursue Sports Management as a degree, and eventually a career.

The path I had to take was always towards working in sports. Come of the sacrifices I had to make were working industries I did not prefer to be in to supplement my income so I could take advantages of opportunities within the sports industry that would lead me to a more permanent position. I currently work for the Detroit Pistons Group. “
