Northwood University (Fla.) women’s soccer head coach Mat Dunn was selected as the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Coach of the Year for the East Region. This is the first NSCAA Coach of the Year award for Dunn. In his fourth season at the helm, the Lady Seahawks had their most successful season in program history. Northwood posted their third consecutive undefeated season in Sun Conference play, and captured back-to-back Sun Conference regular season championships. The Lady Seahawks advanced to their first ever NAIA National Championship Semifinal, where Northwood fell on a penalty kick, 7-6, against Westmont College. As head women’s soccer coach at Northwood, Dunn has amassed a 47-9-4 record through four seasons, earning three straight berths in the NAIA National Tournament.
“It’s an honor to receive this recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America,” said Dunn. “I’m grateful for the award, but I wouldn’t have earned it if not for the tremendous efforts of my team. They accomplished a few milestones and set a new standard for the Northwood Women’s Soccer program. I’m humbled by this honor, and I hope we can build upon our successes moving forward.”
