Northwood University International Auto Show “Cruises Through The Golden Anniversary” As It Reaches Its 50 Year Mark
A Time-Honored Tradition
From its humble beginnings in 1963, what began as a simple idea has since established itself as the largest outdoor auto show in North America. As it “Cruises Through the Golden Anniversary” Northwood’s Michigan campus will transform into something exhilarating. This means showcasing over 500 new cars, trucks, semis, specialty, recreational, and promotional vehicles; not to mention an extensive aftermarket presence as well as a stunning Classic Car Show. This time honored tradition has proven itself to be one of Northwood’s crowning achievements.
Over 600 Northwood undergraduates from all majors commit their time and energy to this completely student-run event, making NUIAS the one of a kind show it is today. This unique opportunity differentiates our students’ experience, giving them an edge in the ever-competitive world of business.
VIPs Bring Industry Luster
Many past participants have moved on to become leaders in their respective professional careers, gleaning networking, creativity, and problem solving skills in this real world application. Among these students is one of this year’s VIP Panel speakers, Dick Garber, President of Garber Management Group, including Garber Dealer Group, Rightway Automotive, and Gateway Financial.
Also adding to the allure, our VIP Panel consists of an A list of automotive leaders, including: Jean Jennings, President and Editor of Automobile Magazine; Chris Kersting, President and CEO of SEMA; Reid Bigland, CEO of RAM Trucks Chrysler; and our keynote speaker, Jim Lentz, CEO of Toyota North America. These industry front-runners are able to share their knowledge and expertise with students and the general public as specialists in their fields.
Student Leaders Shine
What you don’t see behind the scenes at the show is just as important as what you do see. Under every glittering light and enthralling display are the team members and captains who worked countless long hours, brainstorming, tweaking, and implementing ideas to turn them into reality. Seeing all the dealers who bring vehicles to the show is proof that many students put in the time to build those relationships, making sure the best of the best are showcased. With each smile, exclamation, and appreciative expression from those who attend, the students involved are reminded why they dedicate so much—so they can bring the magic of the automotive industry to over 40,000 guests each year.
Adam LaFurgey, General Chair of the show, is ensuring the 50th Annual NUIAS is the best one yet. “Our goal is to push the envelope, create an unforgettable experience, and exceed all expectations,” he says. As this is his fourth year of participation, Adam has a deep investment and passion for the show.
His attitude is contagious. The 14-member executive board has been working since December to prepare for the event. Members have up to four years of involvement and all have a deep rooted interest in ensuring the show goes off without a hitch.
“Northwood’s Auto Show is something I have been a part of for so long and has taught me so much. I want to be able to share my passion with others and help to create something spectacular this year,” remarks Vice Chair of Divisionals, Justin Edgar.
As part of the inspiration, staff involvement is paramount to making the 50th Anniversary a success. Their mentorship and expertise has helped each year to guide the way and add a level of professionalism. Without their resources, assurance, and advice, the show would not be what it is today.
Excitement has spread. Captains, Co-Captains and their teams continue to brainstorm in anticipation for the last weekend in September. It will be a time to shine, a time to pull out all the stops and prove just how innovative and impactful a group of dedicated students can be.
This year’s memorable show will be held on Northwood’s scenic Michigan campus at the peak of autumn’s splendor September 27th, 28th, and 29th. For show hours as well as other information, please visit our website: www.northwood.edu/autoshow or call the auto show office at (989) 837-4423.
