Another year, another championship for the Northwood University women’s tennis team. Northwood went 17-0 in the fall season, claiming both the GLIAC Championship and the GLIAC Tournament titles. It is the ninth time in the last 10 years Northwood has claimed the conference title.
In addition to the team’s accomplishments, sophomore Susana Alcaraz has been named the GLIAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year. Her impressive play in both the singles and doubles lineup was a key part of Northwood’s championship. In singles, she went 15-1 overall this fall, which included a 13-1 mark during GLIAC regular season play. Alcaraz was even better in doubles, posting a 17-0 mark overall in doubles (14-0 in GLIAC play). For her career, she has gone 47-1 in GLIAC regular season singles and doubles matches, all of which have occurred at the No. 1 position.
In addition to the post-season awards, the GLIAC announced the All-Conference teams. In addition to Alcaraz on the First Team, three other Timberwolves earned recognition. Seniors Ayana Kobayashi and Svenja Stephan were placed on the Second Team, while Nastya Puchkina was named Honorable Mention.
