Northwood is an alma mater that supports alumni and their children through two scholarships specifically designed for children of alumni. The Northwood University Alumni Legacy Endowed Scholarship and the Northwood University Alumni Scholarship are available to help our alumni keep NU all in the family. “We want more of our alumni families to know about these two scholarships available to their children. We are happy that many Northwood families are now two generations strong and we want to support them,” said Julie Adamczyk, executive director of Alumni Relations. “For alumni who love Northwood and their children who also love the school, these scholarships can help make Northwood a family institution.”

Alumni Parents Michelle Waller (Pelc) ('91) and Greg Waller ('91) have fond memories of Northwood from when they attended and earned their B.B.A.s in accounting. They made great friends with both classmates and professors that have lasted beyond college days. And they have used their top-rated business education throughout their careers and lives. The Wallers made it a point to visit Northwood often over the years for homecoming and the auto show, and brought their children along to share the fun. As their son Derek grew, the call of football and the Timberwolves grew too. “Going to Northwood was Derek’s decision. When he stepped on campus, he knew this was where he wanted to get his education. And Greg and I were very comfortable having him attend ‘our’ school. But with two kids in college, the tuition was a concern for our family. The Northwood University Alumni Legacy Endowed Scholarship that Derek received really helped lift the financial burden,” said Michelle Waller.

I think the scholarship shows Northwood’s deep commitment to alumni. It’s a major benefit that means a lot to families like us. We’ve always appreciated the family feeling at Northwood and now we’ve rediscovered it as NU parents. Northwood is caring for students, both past and present.

Student Recipient (and NU Football Teammate)

Derek Waller, ’19, has been busy on the football field every fall of his college career playing offensive line guard and tackle for the Timberwolves. Now a senior in accounting, he plans to use all that he’s learned at Northwood to earn an M.B.A. and then become a CPA. He has set his sights on working for a large accounting firm.

“I chose Northwood because of the accounting program as well as for athletics.” said Derek Waller. “I think that supporting the kids of alumni through this scholarship is an important way to have a positive impact on another generation.”
